Hosted by Swansea University in partnership with the National Waterfront Museum, the festival takes place at the National Waterfront Museum on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October. Since launching in 2016, the Swansea Science Festival has become a popular fixture in the city’s cultural calendar, bringing people of all ages together to discover the science behind the world around them. This year’s pro
Step Up is a widening access programme that works with groups from across the region who are currently under-represented in higher education (HE). With a focus on Year 12 pupils, its aim is to help change lives by making HE accessible to all, including care-experienced young people and young carers. The new graduates joined the Step Up programme in Year 12, taking part in a range of events through
Cynefin Digidol explores how connecting people to the computing history of their local communities can help them see themselves as part of an increasingly digital world. Digital exclusion remains a significant challenge across Wales. Older people, those out of work and people living in areas of deprivation are among the groups least likely to feel confident using technology, despite digital skills

Two-dimensional layered van der Waals crystals have important application prospects in the fields of flexible electronics, optoelectronics and energy conversion due to their rich electrical, optical, thermoelectric and spin electronic properties. This type of material has intrinsically weak interlayer van der Waals interactions and strong intralayer chemical bonds, which form anisotropic characteristics in structure and performance. Although academic circles have observed macroscale room temperature plasticity in various materials such as InSe, SnSe 2 , GaSe, and defective Bi 2 Te 3 , their tensile strains are generally low. How to improve macroscale tensile plasticity while maintaining excellent electrical properties is a key scientific issue that needs to be solved in the development of high-performance flexible and deformable electronic materials.

Kyocera Corporation and the Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC) at Tohoku University have developed a new technology that integrates optical isolators directly onto silicon photonics chips using laser annealing, a method that applies localized heat treatment using a laser. As generative AI and other data-intensive technologies continue to expand, data centers need to process more
University of Michigan researchers will examine whether Michigan's statewide free school meals program is linked to improvements in students' academic performance, attendance, graduation or progression, and discipline outcomes. It will also probe whether the program's effects differ by students' race, ethnicity or economic status to help inform decisions about making free school meals permanent.
