Two-dimensional layered van der Waals crystals have important application prospects in the fields of flexible electronics, optoelectronics and energy conversion due to their rich electrical, optical, thermoelectric and spin electronic properties. This type of material has intrinsically weak interlayer van der Waals interactions and strong intralayer chemical bonds, which form anisotropic characteristics in structure and performance. Although academic circles have observed macroscale room temperature plasticity in various materials such as InSe, SnSe 2 , GaSe, and defective Bi 2 Te 3 , their tensile strains are generally low. How to improve macroscale tensile plasticity while maintaining excellent electrical properties is a key scientific issue that needs to be solved in the development of high-performance flexible and deformable electronic materials.
Coagulation factor XIa (FXIa) is a key protease in the intrinsic coagulation pathway. It plays a central role in pathological thrombosis and has little impact on the normal hemostasis process. It is a safe target for the development of a new generation of anticoagulant drugs.
Liver fibrosis is a common pathological pathway in most chronic liver diseases, and its essence is the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix in the liver. Macrophages play a central regulatory role in the occurrence and regression of liver fibrosis, but their functional selection mechanism between promoting scar formation and driving scar regression has long been unresolved.
Water isotope separation and identification are key technologies in the fields of medicine, chemistry and life sciences. The molecular size and macroscopic physical and chemical properties of water (H 2 O) and heavy water (D 2 O) are highly similar, and their equilibrium adsorption differences in porous media are limited. It is difficult to determine the cause of isotope differences based on the final adsorption amount alone. Therefore, constructing a thin film with oriented narrow channels, moderate frame flexibility, and proton-electron coupling conduction, and collaboratively analyzing the multi-stage transmission process through mass and electrical signals is the key to realizing real-time identification of the confinement behavior of water isotopes.

Scientists recently discovered various Denisovan remains in Southwest China dating back to the late Middle Pleistocene, including the first Denisovan radius—one of two long bones in the forearm. Denisovans are a genetically identified archaic hominin group believed to have been widely distributed across Asia. However, due to the limited number of fossil remains, especially postcranial bones—those

Researchers from the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) have characterized the structural and functional properties of the emerging SARS-CoV-2 sublineage BA.3.2.2 by studying RE.2.2, the lineage designation for the BA.3.2.2 branch gaining prevalence after prolonged low detection in European surveillance datasets. The study, conducted by Prof. GAO George Fu's labor

How can music help us recover from stress? A new study by Chinese scientists suggests the answer may lie in how music unfolds over time. Instead of merely distracting us from a stressful experience, music appears to engage the brain's stress-regulation system through changes in musical tension—the changing sense of anticipation and release that arises from the way music as a whole unfolds over tim

Schizophrenia is a neuropsychiatric disease with a complex genetic basis. Although a large number of genetic studies have identified relevant loci, there is still a lack of systematic understanding of which nerve cell types the genetic risk is concentrated on and at what stage of brain development.
PET can observe human metabolism and molecular activities and plays an important role in tumor diagnosis and efficacy evaluation. Recently, the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and others have made progress in the field of low-count PET imaging.
A recent study in Nature Energy has quantified how cell-to-cell inconsistency limits the performance, lifetime, and resource utilization of electric vehicle (EV) battery packs under real-world operating conditions. The work revealed that a small number of faster-ageing cells can severely constrain an entire pack's performance and lifespan. The study was led by Prof. CHEN Zhongwei from the Dalian I

The pistil is the female reproductive organ of flowering plants. The stigma at the top is responsible for capturing and identifying pollen, and the style below provides a growth channel for the pollen tube. The presence of a clear, stable boundary between the stigma and style is essential to ensure sexual reproduction in the plant.
Stars mostly form in clusters. Open star clusters on the Milky Way disk are affected by the tidal force of the Milky Way during their long-term evolution, gradually disintegrating and releasing their member stars into the Milky Way disk. Neutron stars, as the remnants of the evolution of massive stars, also originate from star clusters. Currently, thousands of neutron stars acting as pulsars have been discovered in the Milky Way disk. However, astronomers have never directly observed neutron stars entering the Milky Way disk from birth clusters before. As a result, there has been a lack of observational evidence for the evolutionary origin of the neutron star population on the Milky Way disk.
Partial oxidation of methane (POM) offers a promising industrial route for syngas production. Metallic nickel (Ni) nanoparticles have long been considered the catalytic active centers for this reaction. However, the metallic Ni detected after reaction might simply be a product of nickel oxide reduction by syngas at high temperatures, rather than the intrinsic active species. Under high-temperature
